WRIGHT, Maurice

Maurice Wright, 60, of Windsor, beloved husband for 15 years of Ida "Jackie" (Cowan) Wright, passed away on Thursday, (June 16, 2011) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 1951, son of Bernice (Taylor) Wright of Windsor and the late Willie Wright, he was raised in Washington, D.C. for a short time before moving to Hartford with his family. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Connecticut Army National Guard and later continued his education at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA and Capitol Region Community College, Hartford where he graduated with an Associate's Degree. Maurice worked for over 35 years at the Mount Sinai Campus of St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and had recently retired as an Environmental Services Supervisor. In his spare time he enjoyed watching all types of sports, especially basketball, football and baseball. He closely followed his favorite teams, the UCONN Huskies, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Yankees, each season and rarely missed a game. Maurice also enjoyed outdoor work around his home, listening to music and most of all, just being with his family. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves, a son, Gregory Wright of South Windsor, a daughter, Siobhan (Wright) Brown of Boardman, OH; three sisters, Willie Mae "Ann" Dillard of Bloomfield, Betty Rankin of East Windsor, and his twin sister, Marie Wright of Hartford; his granddaughter, Skylah Wright; his late wife's mother and her family, whom he remained very close to, Marie Charlot of Miami, FL; three nieces, Danielle "Danni", Nicole, and Tammy; six nephews, Van, Troy, Taurus, Carl, Christopher, and Robert; and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Wright and Willie Wright, Jr.; and recently by his mother-in-law, Ida M. Cowan.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, (June 23), 11 a.m., at The First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 22, 5-8 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
